What is a patient portal?

Your individual patient portal will help you to keep track of appointments, billing, prescriptions, test results and paperwork. You can send a secure message to your psychiatrist through the portal system.

What can I expect during my initial visit?

The first visit is a 60-90 minute, virtual appointment with the physician. If this visit is for a child or adolescent, the doctor will spend time with the patient and parent both individually and together.

The physician will spend time reviewing new patient paperwork, clinical history forms and any other relevant documents submitted prior to the appointment. After the appointment the physician will spend about 30-60 minutes collaborating with your PCP, therapist and referring provider as appropriate or requested.

What will we discuss during my initial visit?

We will spend most of our 60-90 minutes getting to know each other and making sure that I have a good understanding of your background and history in various aspects of your life as well as a clear idea of what brought you in for evaluation.  We will discuss possible diagnoses and consider treatment options including various forms of therapy, behavioral activation, self-care and, when appropriate, medication.

Do you accept insurance?

Dr. Burkhead-Weiner does not participate in any insurance plans but can provide a billing statement or superbill to be submitted to your insurance company to request partial reimbursement depending on your individual plan. Payment in full is expected at the time of service.
